David Dodge, President/CEO
Dave is President and CEO of Professional Alternatives. Over the past eight years, he has helped guide Professional Alternatives to a leadership position in the executive search, recruiting and staffing services industry, consistently being ranked one of the fifty fastest growing private companies, one of the top twenty-five executive search firms and temporary staffing firms in Minnesota. In addition, Dave personally heads up ProAlt's executive search areas for key sales and engineer positions.
Dave began a career in sales and sales management at Dataserv, a computer leasing and maintenance company. Over a nine-year period he held roles as Sales Manager, Vice President of Sales, Senior Vice President of Marketing and eventually, President and Director. During this period, Dataserv grew from a 20 person local company, to a 1400 employee, multinational firm. During Dave's tenure as a member of the board of directors, the company went public on the London Stock exchange. His experience included direct management of a sales force of more than 35 professionals.
Following Dataserv, Dave founded Eagle Travel, a corporate travel agency. This company was eventually merged into Travelcorp, and was the 17th largest travel agency in the country. After selling his interest in Travelcorp, Dave was a business development consultant with his own firm, Strategic Sales Alliance. In 1999, he purchased a controlling interest in Professional Alternatives.
Dave received a BS in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota. He is a member of Human Resource Professionals (HRP) of Minnesota, the American Staffing Association, and the Minnesota Association of Personnel Services (MAPS). In addition, he serves on The Advisory Council of the Industrial Relations Center at the Carlson School of Management. |

Bob Backes, EVP
As EVP of Professional Alternatives, Bob Backes heads up the Recruiting Alternatives Division and ProAlt Executive Search. He also is a partner in the company, and serves on ProAlt's board of directors.
Prior to joining Professional Alternatives, Bob held positions as Senior Vice President of Human Resources for UnitedHealth Group, Uniprise Outsourcing Services, and PHP Minnesota. Bob's expertise covers all aspects of Human Resource services including recruiting and talent acquisition strategy, HR services “co-sourcing”, and business transformation. He is actively involved in conducting key employee searches, with special focus in the healthcare and insurance arenas, with positions ranging from Human Resource Executives to Medical Directors.
Bob has over 19 years of human resources experience in the healthcare industry, and holds a Masters degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Southern Illinois University. |

John Herman
John W. Herman is Search Practice Leader for Recruiting Alternatives. John was Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, and Chief Operating Officer of Park Nicollet Health Services, an integrated care system based in St. Louis Park, MN, serving Minneapolis and its suburbs. PNHS includes Park Nicollet Clinic, one of the nation’s largest multi-specialty group practices with 650+ physicians and 24 office locations, and Methodist Hospital, a 426-bed full service tertiary care hospital.
As Chief Administrative Officer, John had the responsibility for all corporate support functions from finance to HR to IT. John also was responsible for corporate development and joint ventures and partnerships. As Chief Operating Officer, John had responsibility for the operations of PNHS, including administrative support of patient care. Prior to this position he served as Senior Vice President for Clinic Administration and Vice President for Real Estate and Support Services. Prior to the merger, John was Vice President of Operations at Methodist Hospital and in 1987 he became Executive Director of Methodist Healthcare Associates, a subsidiary of Methodist Hospital’s parent company.
He also served as the Chief Executive Officer of the TRIA Orthopaedic Center, an Orthopaedic clinic and ambulatory surgery center joint venture operation. John also served on the Board of Directors and the Joint Membership Committee of St. Francis Regional Medical Center and managed Glencoe Regional Health Services, a 49-bed hospital and 17-physician practice.
Prior to joining Methodist Hospital, John was Senior Consultant with Robert Douglass Associates, Minneapolis, MN, a health care consulting firm based in Houston, TX. John’s role included the development of strategic and operating plans for many health care institutions across the country.
John is a graduate of St. Olaf College where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974. He went on to obtain his Masters in Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota in 1980. |

Tom Heaney, Executive Search Leader
Thomas Heaney is currently an Executive Search Leader, conducting his national search practice out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He conducts senior-level executive and board of director searches. His fourteen plus years of experience in executive search include clients such as American Express, Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic, and Veterans Administration, to name a few. Prior to this, Tom was a Managing Director in the Minneapolis office of Korn/Ferry International, the largest search firm in the world.
In 1990 Tom founded and was General Partner of the Furst Group/MPI, a national executive search practice. There, he consulted in all areas of healthcare and medical technology, including insurance, pharmaceuticals, medical products, hospitals and clinics, and home healthcare. Special emphasis has also been on Board of Director searches.
Before that, Tom served as President of United Health Care Management Company and Senior Vice President of the corporate parent, United Health Care Corporation (NYSE: UNH). Tom holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Cloud State University and a Master of Arts from Minnesota State University.

Vicki Russo, Senior Recruiter and Research Consultant
Vicki is a Senior Recruiter in Professional Alternatives Executive Search Practice. Her responsibilities include sourcing, screening, and interviewing candidates, as well as providing industry research information.
Vicki has broad recruiting experience in several industries, including information technology, marketing, pharmaceutical and non-profit. She started her career at AT&T, where she held positions in IT and Marketing. In 1998, Vicki entered the Staffing industry. She has recruited for many Fortune 500 organizations, including Eli Lilly and Publicis, a Contract Organization for Takeda.
She has experience recruiting positions ranging from key sales staff to high-level executives, including CEO searches. Vicki is a member of the Human Resources Management Association of New Jersey (HRMA-NJ) and has received an MBA from Rider College. |
